Bitter Creek Work Days

April 14-15, 2007

Some SMVRHM guys spent Saturday and/or Sunday at Bitter Creek Western Railroad in preparation for next Saturday's Choo Chew Saturday fundraising event.

Saturday was mostly raking clean the tracks.

A unit train of trash cans crosses over the trestle with Dr. Marcus at the controls.

The dirt was being hauled about 100 yards down the line to where some fill was needed.

And Sunday we helped start a major project at Bitter Creek, the rebuild of tunnel no. 1. The first step, uncover it. The tunnel entrance is just below and behind Don and Dick.

Watch where you step! See the rails below/through the hole we made today...

Karl provided a great hot dog lunch - everyone had two of those bad boys.

The camera caught these guys praying to the railroad gods for safe passage through tunnel no. 1.

Karl briefed a few of the guys on proper train loading in preparation for Choo Chew Saturday.

There were a couple trains running today.

Ken engineers the SD-9.

Then Rob...

Then Dick.

At left, Don tests the ceiling of tunnel no. 1 by running his leg down through it.
