Speeder Donated to the MuseumJune 30, 2007A railroad speeder (maintenance of way vehicle, also referred to as a motorcar) was recently donated to the Museum by Sal Jacobs, originally of Lompoc but now in Sausalito. It's a Fairmont speeder (MT19A), probably circa 1970s, with a fiberglass body. Thank you, Sal! ![]() ![]() At right you can see that this is a dual-chain drive (the two chains run right next to each other just to the right of the center red box). If one chain broke out in the middle of nowhere, there was still some hope of limping home! These pictures were taken in the midst of the Museum moving to a new space this same week. |
